Into the Arena – Part 10

November has started.  hope you all enjoyed Halloween or some junk.  Welcome to page ten of the chapter, apparently.  I was surprised.

A lot of you guys have liked J’s actions as of her desperately wanting to make something explode.  And a lot of people liked Hickory on page a couple weeks back.  In a way, that’s awesome and makes me feel good, but at the same time it almost makes me feel bad because things are still heading into a quite serious set of events.  Granted I tend not to let anything get too serious but I’m sure some of the reader base would differ.

But I digress.  December is almost upon us, and if the Christmas strips don’t entertain a good portion of you I’m not sure what will.  I should probably get those up here, but if you can’t wait that long they’re still up on the old site.  Or, at least the first batch.  Still have to add last year’s.  Wow.  Something to look forward to, I guess.

As for the page itself, not a whole ton to say.  I used copy and paste for a couple panels, which i never do, and it sped things up in the end a little.  hopefully it’s not a slap in the face or anything.  This page was nice in that it had a relatively small number of backgrounds to it, but hard in that to make up for that there’s so many characters.  It still took a while, but I’m back on schedule, so that’s nice.  J tries her best to give Hiaté direction but oh well.  :B

I don’t think you c+v’d any of the characters, so… My rule of thumb is that c+ving backgrounds isn’t cheating – it’s just ensuring consistency between panels. There’s no point in drawing backgrounds more than once, imho. Nobody really pays too much attention to them anyway, which is a good thing, but if there’s glaring differences it’s just annoying. imho, XD

I find I copy and apste a lot in MSN, and that’s almost always characters. However, i tend to do it for slight changes in expression more than out of raw laziness, and like the effect. I’ve not used it much in HP, and probably won’t anytime soon thanks to my present goal of making these little guys look as animated as possible. Backgrounds, however, I may look into reusing now and then, even though Painter makes it an absolute pain to do so, if only because the backgrounds themselves are growing more and more painstaking and tedious all the time, largely out of focus on those as well…

I’m really trying to make everything better all the time. It’s not a bad thing, but it does make things take increasing amounts of time…
